5.0 out of 5 stars Works well as a home router
Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2024

This router is very simple to setup yet, for those so inclined, has some very nice features like ad blocking, excellent VPN support, TOR support and the ability to add in a micro SD card for shared storage over SMB. The toggle switch on the side can be easily configured to turn VPN and TOR access on or off quickly. Also the firmware is built on OpenWRT meaning there's hundreds of optional packages that can extend this router in ways most routers can't be extended. Yes, it's an excellent travel router but it also works very well as one's main router at home. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not only good for traveling, this little device is powerful and solid!

This is not only good for traveling, it's also amazing for providing a small local network. We have been using it for over a month now. It's so powerful, and the performance is solid. Overall, we are very happy with device and highly recommend it, especially for those who have a T-Mobile business cell phone plan, which usually offers an extra line for free. Since we have an extra line and extra cell phones, and T-Mobile offers 200GB premium HS data, this little device connects to our existing switch effortlessly. We were worried about the cell phone battery draining, but since we dedicate this cell phone line for our networking, the cell phone connects to this device all the time, so the phone battery has not been an issue at all. We are pleasantly surprised that this device delivers a steady T-Mobile 5G HS speed, and the WiFi signal reaches farther, which is much better than what we have with AT&T fiber internet. So we canceled our AT&T Fiber internet subscription. The only thing is the device is kind of hot while running, but we got this $13 super quiet fan from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G05A2MU?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details, which really cools it down :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Super reliable, affordable and perfect for my portability needs.

I purchased an older version of this router for a friend a few years ago and put it into his stage box, was really impressed at how simple and reliable it was so when My brand name WiFi router died last week I decided to get one for myself.
I installed it in the rack Friday night and burned it in for 24 hours then used it live on stage Saturday night, the sound guy said it was lightning fast with no latency.
Pros, if you look at the attached photo of the bottom, when you look through the grill you can see a gigantic fan so we know it's capable of keeping it's self cool.
In effort to not block off the cooling grill I mounted it upside down with Velcro sitting on top of my switch.
Setup was super easy, the router comes with a two page start up instruction, it's simple and directly to he point, read it and you won't have any questions.
I would strongly recommend to anyone wanting a small travel WiFi router.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little router!

This router is absolutely tiny and it does exactly as it's advertised to do and does it well. If you're looking for a router that comes with OpenWRT, this is a great option! I thought that the default firmware was something else because initially it does look different, but it really is OpenWRT! If you go into the "Advanced settings" tab, it'll direct you to the OpenWRT UI. It just has an additional front facing UI but it's very easy to get into the OpenWRT UI.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked for a simple offline web server
Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2023

I had bought an older version of this from this manufacturer a long time ago and really liked the simple software built on top of a long time good open source routing software and had a new use case for an offline static website that I wanted to power off batteries. I tried using a raspberry pi zero but it was not performant enough for the JS heavy application so I tried to use a newq file hub but it’s web server kept crashing under rather light and seemingly random reasons. I also tried using an old android phone but that didn’t support exfat external drives so that idea was also out. I got to thinking that a router with decent software and the right ports would work perfectly. I remembered this brand from a previous purchase and saw the hardware specs and thought it would be plenty to host a simple static website off of a usb drive and sure enough it does this extremely well. Now openwrt which is the underlying software has plugins to run a full fledged web server off of it but I figured I would try to just use the http method already built in that is provided from the network storage WebDAV protocol. This worked perfectly and is far more performant than any other solution I tried. With my battery pack showing it can run it for 15 hours I think this solution will work perfectly for my intended use case.
The router is quite simple and about the footprint of my iPhone just a little larger and thicker of course.
The tf card easily supported my 1tb card in exfat and the usb 3.0 port on the back also works much the same way with an adapter.
It includes a power bring but any usb c charger should be able to supply it enough power. It’s about 20 watts or so.
There is a small fan inside but I never heard it.
The repeater function does not appear to work with eero routers after a firmware update so unsure what happened there.
Overall though easy to use and very versatile thanks to its very open source software also performance seems great for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good. International Travel pending
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2024

I read some of the reviews and comments AFTER buying so I was a little worried. I will respond to some of them here.
Overall the device is working as promised and for the weight is quite handy!
1. Power Supply: The supplied power is just a normal USB-C power supply. I've successfully run this device with my laptop power supply and by plugging it into my simple power bank. As I write this it has been plugged up to my power bank from about 8 AM to 11 AM and it's only lowered it by 4 or 5% (20k mah powerbank.) When using advanced featured like the USB port and anything else that might cause it to draw more power, you may run into the limit of the device you plug it into.
Check your junk drawers! The shipped power supply only comes with one set of plug for your country, however, I happened to have (from some other device I got, apparently) several other country adaptors that snap right into the thing. However based on the above paragraph, I likely wont be traveling with the supplied Power Supply
2. VPN: So far I've only used NordVPN thru OpenVPN with a minor dip in speed (maybe 10mbps.) I'm not a VPN genius but nord reports its working as intended and my IP address reports correctly. I've only tested this domestically, will report back after my international trip. The phone app is a little confusing about VPN set up and this is echoed online with others with similar questions. Something about the configuration stored on phone vs device. I'm a techy person so I figured it out, but I don't think it was actually a big deal.
3. Reliability: I saw some say it was unstable or didn't maintain connection. On this current domestic trip I plugged it in to the wall the second I got there and left it on. Now going on three days straight it is still performing with no change. I unplugged it and came downstairs to work in the hotel lobby (attached to my power bank) and it reconnected immediately without me having to use the app. Realistically I likely wouldn't leave this thing plugged in when I am not in the room or space where it is using it.
There was a little bug when I initially tried to connect it to the hotel wifi but I think that was because I was moving too fast or my phone was trying to change connections to working wifi. It seems once you hit connect and order the device to work...it will. While I was piddling with my phone trying to reconnect to the device it had already connected itself to the hotel's wifi.
I'll be traveling internationally with this next week and with two people's worth of devices so I will update!
Other notes:
It does generate a little heat if you plan to use this clandestinely. Think what you might feel through a coffee cup with a heat sleeve on it if it was poured 20 minutes ago. There doesn't seem to be any fan. Software has a lot of neat little features and the wizards to help you connect are actually decent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect travel router for the whole family...
Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2024
Style: AXT1800Verified Purchase
My 1st experience.
Before leaving home, I setup a VPN on the mini router, and connected all the family's laptops, cell phones and tablets to the mini router's Wi-Fi network.
Once we arrives at the hotel/resort, I login into the mini router, and had the it connected to the hotel Wi-Fi within 2 minutes, and everyone's decides seamlessly connected to the mini router, just like we were at home. The Wi-Fi was stable, the speed was fast and the range was surprisingly strong far away from the hotel room. We left the hotel room on the 3rd floor in the morning, and upon returning that evening, our devices started connected to the mini router Wi-Fi as we were parking in the lot next to the building. I walked to the farthest end of the parking lot, and the Wi-Fi signal was still strong. I'd guess I was outside, standing about 150-200 feet away from the mini router, with a strong (VPN) Wi-Fi signal. No one (old or young) asked me for help with the Wi-Fi for our whole vacation stay. It just worked. I'm extremely pleased with this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars This thing is awesome. Great for streaming

I have an issue where I travel out of the US regularly but it of country means I cannot use my US streaming accounts. With this in tunnel mode and the vpn set up, I get all of my US content. It is also great for additional browsing protection. Keeps providers and local hotel Lans from snoopping my personal traffic. Even using https, anyone with access to the wireless lan (hotel providers) or WAN (connectivity providers) can see where you go and use or sell that information for marketing, etc., they just can't see what is in the transmission, under 'normal' conditions. This route solves those problems. NOTE: you either have to know or watch videos on how to set up a vpn service to connect to or you have to have a VPN connection service to utilize within the router.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use travel router
Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2024

If you have several devices you will be using while traveling, this little router is great. You plug it in and set it to the network that you normally would connect every device to, and it does it. Your devices would all be setup to use the travel router and they just work. Used this on a road trip with the kids, each hotel was a breeze to setup and get them all connected quickly. Also used it to make the connection easier for a group of people on a weird network. I was able to use Tailscale to get back to my network at home so my connection was more secure.
